ABOUT THE BOOK
Scientific knowledge can accumulate while the object of investigation remains poorly understood. How can researchers study complex, changing processes when established explanations and disciplinary boundaries no longer provide sufficient guidance?
This book develops Scientific Recognition Architecture: a framework for organising inquiry before a mature explanation is available. It connects specialised expertise within a shared research process, keeps uncertainty explicit, and makes assumptions, questions and explanations open to revision.
Drawing on the long-term consequences of military pollution, the book examines what researchers must learn—and be prepared to change—in their own cognitive practice. It places the developing object at the centre of inquiry and treats understanding as an unfinished task.
CONTENTS AND APPROACH
The book contains 30 chapters. The main text, logical diagrams and learning units form three interconnected layers of presentation. The volume also includes the Operational Specification of Scientific Recognition Architecture and a glossary of concepts and their relationships.
The learning units support independent study and group discussion, helping readers examine research decisions, distinguish evidence from assumptions, and revise interpretations as new material becomes available.
INTENDED READERS
Doctoral students, researchers, university teachers and research team leaders working with complex, dynamic objects, particularly in environmental and interdisciplinary research.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Dmitry Nikolaenko, PhD, Doctor Habilitatus, is Editor-in-Chief of Pollution and Diseases. His research focuses on complex, dynamic processes, including infectious processes and military pollution, and on the theoretical and methodological foundations of scientific inquiry.
