Excursions after the conference
Excursion Costs and Transportation
To avoid any misunderstanding regarding excursion fees and transportation arrangements, please note the following.
1. Historical Walk through PragueThe Historical Walk through Prague is free of charge for conference participants.
There is no participation fee for this excursion.
The walk will take place in the historic centre of Prague and does not require any additional transportation.
2. Excursions to Brno and DěčínFor all other excursions, participants will be asked to cover only the direct transportation costs associated with the trip.
There is no additional organisational fee charged by the conference.
For excursions involving travel to another Czech city, the main transportation will normally be by train.This applies in particular to:
• the return train journey Prague – Brno – Prague;• the return train journey connected with the excursion to Děčín.
The Czech Republic has a very well-developed railway network, and train travel is generally the most convenient and efficient way to reach major cities from Prague.
For journeys such as Prague–Brno or Prague–Děčín, travelling by train is usually more practical than travelling by car. It avoids road traffic, parking problems and unnecessary delays, while providing a comfortable and relatively fast connection between city centres.
Participants will therefore be informed in advance about the relevant train connection, departure time and expected transportation cost.
3. Excursion to the Peace Monument / Austerlitz Battlefield
For the excursion to the Peace Monument (Mohyla míru) and the Austerlitz battlefield, participants will first travel from Prague to Brno by train.After arrival at Brno Main Railway Station, a private bus will be organised for the group.
The transfer from Brno railway station to the Peace Monument / Austerlitz area is expected to take no more than approximately 25 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
The bus will be used for transportation between Brno and the excursion area and, where necessary, between individual sites included in the programme.
The cost of this part of the excursion will be paid directly for the services provided by the Czech company organising the local excursion and transportation.
The conference organisers do not add any additional fee or commission to these costs.General Principle
The purpose of the post-conference excursions is not to generate additional income for the conference.
The Prague excursion is free, while for excursions outside Prague participants cover only the necessary direct costs connected with transportation and, where applicable, the services of the Czech excursion provider.
Detailed information on departure times, meeting points, train connections and final costs will be provided to registered participants in advance.
Optional One-Day Excursions after the Conference
For colleagues who are able to stay in Prague for an additional day or two after the conference, we would also be very happy to suggest several comfortable one-day excursions from Prague.
One of the advantages of Prague is that a number of exceptionally beautiful historical and natural locations are within very easy reach of the city. Central Bohemia in particular offers castles, historic towns, river landscapes and cultural sites that can be visited comfortably in a single day, without demanding travel.
Possible destinations include:
Kutná Hora – a UNESCO World Heritage town with St. Barbara’s Cathedral, the historic centre and the Sedlec complex. It can be reached from Prague in approximately one hour by train, making it one of the easiest and most rewarding day trips.
Karlštejn Castle – one of the most famous and picturesque castles in the Czech Republic, located about an hour from Prague.
Mělník – a small historic town above the confluence of the Vltava and Elbe rivers, with a chateau, vineyards and beautiful views over the surrounding landscape.
Depending on the interests of participants, other very comfortable destinations in Central Bohemia can also be considered.
These excursions would not need to be organised as formal conference sessions. On the contrary, their value would partly lie in the informal atmosphere.
A shared journey, lunch, a walk through a historic town or a visit to a castle provides an excellent opportunity to continue discussions that begin during the conference — about research ideas, field projects, institutional cooperation, funding possibilities, post-war recovery, or potential international consortia.
In our experience, some of the most productive professional conversations take place precisely in this kind of setting. There is more time, fewer formal constraints, and an opportunity to discuss ideas in greater depth than is normally possible between scheduled conference sessions.
The excursions can therefore be understood not simply as sightseeing, but as a pleasant continuation of the conference dialogue: a full day in a beautiful part of the Czech Republic, combined with relaxed professional discussion and opportunities to develop practical ideas for future cooperation.
Everything can be arranged in a very comfortable format, with departure from Prague in the morning and return the same evening. No additional accommodation outside Prague would be necessary.
