Conflict Geography and Environmental Exposure Context

Geographical notes on recent and ongoing wars for environmental and public-health analysisConflict settings for the analysis of war-related pollution, soil degradation, freshwater impacts, exposure pathways, and public-health consequences
These notes provide a shared geographical and environmental context for conference participants. They summarize selected recent and ongoing conflicts as environmental exposure settings, with attention to affected soils, freshwater systems, agricultural lands, industrial zones, military source terms, contaminant transport pathways, and public-health relevance.
The notes are not intended to provide political or legal assessments of the conflicts. Their purpose is to reduce repetition of political background in individual presentations and to support focused scientific discussion on war-related pollution, soil degradation, freshwater impacts, exposure pathways, ecosystem change, and disease-related consequences.
Each note follows a common structure: conflict area and timeframe, spatial footprint, environmental setting, military activity as source term, contaminant transport pathways, exposure pathways, data limitations, and relevance to the conference analytical tracks.
Maps and geographical descriptions are used for analytical purposes only and do not imply any position on sovereignty, territorial claims, recognition, or legal responsibility.
