War, Soil, and Freshwater Systems. Conference Prague, 15–17 October 2026
Conference Experience, Structure, and International Cooperation
This conference is designed not as a traditional academic event, but as a structured and collaborative research process. Its purpose is to bring together an international group of experts to jointly develop understanding of the interconnected system:war – pollution – soil – freshwater – human health, and to move step by step toward coordinated research and future international projects.Participants are invited not only to present their work, but to engage in a shared process of analysis, discussion, and development of research directions.
General ApproachThe conference follows a balanced and deliberate structure that combines:• analytical sessions • moderated discussions • informal communication and networking The working rhythm is intensive, but not rushed. The aim is cumulative progress — allowing ideas to develop, be questioned, and refined over the course of the three days. This format is particularly suited for participants who are open to dialogue, willing to engage with different perspectives, and interested in developing their work beyond individual presentations.
International Cooperation and Strategic ContextThe research topic addressed by this conference inherently requires international cooperation. The environmental and health impacts of war are long-term, systemic, and transboundary. Addressing them requires:• coordination across countries and regions • integration of different empirical contexts • development of shared methodological approaches
In this context, collaboration with international research institutions, scientific networks, and funding organizations is not an optional addition, but a natural and necessary component.
The conference is therefore designed as a space where:• researchers from different countries can engage in structured dialogue • scientific and funding communities can interact directly • ideas can evolve into concrete international research initiatives
Particular attention is given to creating conditions for meaningful interaction with representatives of research foundations and institutions. This includes both formal sessions and informal communication formats.
The aim is not only to exchange knowledge, but to support the formation of:• international research teams • project proposals • long-term collaborative frameworks
This approach reflects a broader model of work. The conference is not a one-time event, but part of an ongoing process that includes publication, annual continuity, and gradual development of research cooperation. In this sense, the creation of a professional environment for international dialogue is one of the central objectives of the conference.
Day 1 — Conceptual FrameworkThe first day is dedicated to establishing a shared analytical foundation. The program includes:• framework-setting lectures • structured case studies • a moderated discussion focused on key research questions and knowledge gaps The day is organized in two main working blocks, with sufficient time for breaks and informal interaction.EveningA joint dinner will take place in the evening. This is an integral part of the conference format. It provides an opportunity to continue discussions in an informal setting, establish professional connections, and begin forming collaborative relationships.
Day 2 — Empirical Expansion and TestingThe second day focuses on testing and expanding the analytical framework through empirical material. The program includes parallel sessions structured into focused blocks, each combining:• short presentations • moderated discussion • session-level synthesis All materials will be available in advance, allowing participants to engage at a deeper analytical level during the sessions. The schedule includes regular breaks and a balanced pace, ensuring that the day remains productive while maintaining the quality of discussion.EveningAn optional guided walk through the historical center of Prague will be organized. This informal setting provides additional space for conversation, reflection, and continued exchange between participants.
Day 3 — Research Development and Project DialogueThe third day is dedicated to transforming discussion into structured research directions. The program includes:• consolidation of analytical conclusions • identification of priority research areas • discussion of potential collaborations and project development Particular attention is given to dialogue with research foundations and institutions, including:• exploration of funding opportunities • discussion of project formats • identification of feasible next steps This part of the conference is intentionally focused and structured, while remaining open to further development.
Beyond the Formal ProgramThe conference concludes on Saturday. Participants are encouraged to remain in Prague over the weekend. This allows for continued informal discussions in a comfortable environment, often leading to new ideas and collaborations.
Working CultureThe conference is based on a shared understanding:• openness to different perspectives • willingness to engage in dialogue • focus on questions as well as answers • readiness to refine and develop ideas The objective is not to defend individual positions, but to contribute to a collective process of understanding and research development.
Final NoteThe structure of the conference is designed to guide the process, not to limit it.The combination of structured work, moderated discussion, and informal interaction is intended to create conditions for meaningful scientific progress and the development of long-term international cooperation.
This approach reflects a broader commitment: to move from fragmented research toward a more coherent, collaborative, and cumulative understanding of complex global challenges.
